Vicki and Ada in training for Round the Bays

Vicki and Ada training for Round the Bays

Every year, thousands of Aucklanders run or walk Round the Bays to raise money for their favourite charities.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday 8 March and Seacliffe Siberians are pleased to support two animal-loving participants. If you’re looking for a way to contribute, you might like to check out these Round the Bays entrants:

Six Legs (Vicki and Ada)

Vicki will be running with her very special dog Ada. Ada is New Zealand’s first Diabetic Response Dog (DRD), trained under the auspices of the Kotuku Foundation with the guidance of Flip Calkoen (Flip’s Top Dog).

Vicki and Ada are raising funds for Diabetes Auckland and the Kotuku Foundation, while providing general awareness of diabetes and DRDs.

Diabetes Auckland provides health education, awareness and support group services, mobile diabetes care, and training to health professionals.

The Kotuku Foundation trains Medical Response Dogs for a wide range of conditions.

Vicki also has two cats, one of whom is Farley, a charming blue tabby with white from Seacliffe Siberians.

Suzanne

Our good friend Suzanne is currently “between cats” although she does live with a very large dog.

Suzanne is raising money for the Auckland SPCA and also for the Mental Health Foundation – two very worthy causes.

The Auckland SPCA cares for more than 15,000 animals every year, and receives no government funding.

The SPCA needs to raise $25,000 each month just to cover the cost of drugs and medical supplies used in its animal hospital.
