Featured Siberian kitten: High altitude Alfie

8-week-old flamepoint Siberian kitten Alfredo at the top of the 1.2 metre scratching post

Alfredo was the last kitten born in Calina’s second litter, but he’s proved himself to be number one when it comes to climbing.

For this little flame point Siberian, anything vertical is a summit to be conquered. Why? Because it’s there I suppose.

Alfie loves climbing onto my desk for a look around.

And this weekend (the kitten’s 8-week birthday) he went for “the big one” – the 1.2-metre tall scratching post in the kitten nursery. In to time at all he had reached the top, and then leaped across to a tall cabinet about 60cm away.

He’s returned to the top of the scratching post many times, showing he is equally adept on the ascent and the descent. (Can’t wait until he gets to discover our “grande” post, it’s 2 metres tall with a crows nest near the top. Bet he’ll be up it in a flash.)

I’m sure the other kittens are impressed, although neither has made the climb yet – at least not when I’ve been looking.
