Two-year-old Ksana with a favourite string, in a hammock on a book case, an easy jump for a Siberian! 30 Dec 2017

Before she was old enough to be imported to New Zealand, Ksana stayed with our friend Jo-Anne in Ottawa, who provided us with this cool cat hammock.

One day, when I was picking up cat toys so that I could vacuum, I put the hammock on top of a tall bookshelf.

And there it has stayed, because Ksana and the other adult cats have no problem getting to it! It’s a nice refuge when they want a little time away from the kittens I suppose.

Yesterday, as we were getting ready to do a video of the K Litter kittens playing with the Cat Dancer, Judee noticed Kiska and Katrina were relaxing on top of a small climbing post. So she enticed them with the toy while I got a few cute photos.

Hoku claims a pink box, as the J Litter kittens explore.

We went shopping for shoes yesterday.

Or, from the cats’ point of view: we went shopping for shoe boxes.

Because, if you’re a cat, the only thing better than a box is a lot of boxes.

Yes, it’s a pink box, and it’s MINE!

Those little kittens can’t see me in my pink box!

Oh, did I startle you?

Does Hoku really know that her box is pink? Probably not.

We heard about the Cat Super Roller Circuit toy from Karli, who has Siberian kitten ‘Lace’ (formerly Hana). We thought it looked good, so when Judee saw it on sale she placed an order.

In this video, we had just finshed assembling the track and placing it on the kitchen floor. The video shows little Hoku and her mother Calina as they approach the toy for the first time.

It takes Hoku about 40 seconds to work out what to do. As soon as she hits the ball it lights up and the game is on!

As for our senior feline, Mari, she found another use for the track. She now sleeps there every night (and a good part of the day too).

4-month-old Siberian kitten Michonne plays with the Cat Dancer, 3 Jan 2016

Here’s another of our recent graduates from the I Litter: the mackerel tabby Inka, or as she’s known now, “Michonne”.

Michonne lives with Gaby and Jorge and their two sons on Auckland’s North Shore.

In the photo she’s playing with the Cat Dancer toy, which consists of a bit of springy wire with cardboard on the end. With a bit of practice, you can make the end of the Cat Dancer dip and dart like a flying insect.

The toys are made in the United States and we import them for our kittens to take to their new homes.

Isn’t it funny how cats can ignore a toy for weeks, then all of a sudden it’s their favourite. For a few hours at least.

In this video, 17-week-old Gustav (Gus) has recently rediscovered the bungy cord toy hanging from a doorway in our kitchen and he tries his best to wrestle it into submission.

All the kittens from the G Litter have been sold, but Gus is staying with us for a couple of weeks while his new owners are overseas.

He is becoming more adorable all the time. He loves to chat, and had a ready and loud purr whenever we touch him. (Sometimes he just starts up when he sees us or his mum.)

We didn’t know what to expect, but thought our Siberian cats and kittens might enjoy playing in it.

Actually, they enjoy crashing it.

The design simply isn’t very good. If you so much as look at the bus it falls over and collapses. And for our felines, that’s when the real fun begins.

Here are the 14-week-old G Litter kittens in action on our kitchen floor this morning. Their mum Cici also appears, stomping on the bus even though her kittens are inside!

In a few days, these cuties will be on their way to new homes. We’ll miss them so much.

5-week-old Georgey in the cat tunnel, 15 May 2015

Here’s what kittens get up to when they’re in the fun tunnel.

In this photo, Georgey is in the front, and Gracie is behind him.

Georgey is a sealpoint. He seems to be the most outgoing of the G Litter. When we open the door to the cat nursery, it’s almost always George who is first to greet us. He also has the best appetite of the group – and none of the kittens are reluctant eaters.

5-week-old Siberian kitten Gabby with a stuffed toy, 13 May 2015

The G Litter kittens will be six weeks old tomorrow and they are growing very quickly, as is my collection of photos waiting to be posted. So I’d better get on to that!

The kittens are all eating solid food (although an occasional feed from their mum is still a treat). They now have two rooms of the house to explore and they run everywhere – until they run out of energy and fall asleep.

A few days ago, Judee introduced the kittens to stuffed toys and we got this photo of Gabby playing with one.

She’s in the Buka basket – possibly the best cat toy ever made!
